Duncan Taylor Octaves Dalmunach 2016 (4 year old) 54.2%

39 months in refil ASB, finished 9 months in 2nd fill sherry octave

Cask No. 10828316/ Dist: 2016 Btl: 2021/ Tasted: Feb 2021

The nose is leafy, herbal, winey and toasty. Intense and interesting with plenty of barley, raspberry, strawberry, tea leaves, dunnage, earth and tobacco.

The palate opens with the cold tea tannins, barley and toasty oak. Hints of winey red fruit, malt, tobacco and toffee on middle. Rich, mouth-filling and a little masked, but the finish is juicy and full of chewy malt. Lingering tobacco, spice and grilled nuts.

Water lessens the sweet red fruit notes and emphasises the barley, tobacco and tea leaf notes. The palate is softer with more toffee, tobacco and tea leaves. Like the nose the winey red fruit is lessened and the finish is a little confected now. Probably best drunk neat.
