SANCHEZ ROMATE

Uno En Mil 40%

Tasted: ?

Quite an interesting, delicate nose. Earthy, a touch vegetal with whisky-esque (Mortlach), sherry, American Oak aromas. Totally different on the palate. Clean, fruity, Cognac-esque, smooth with rich fruit, a touch sherried, dried fruit, nuts, stewed apricots and figs. Lovely and smooth right through to the end with a tangy, marzipan and earthy finish.

Cask 11/1000 Tasted: June 2011

Pungent and deep aromas of Amontillado, mixed with a light Oloroso note. The aromas are reminiscent of peat and manure in a sort ofConnemaralike style. Quite drying with some burnt wood notes. Lurking beneath are some lovely honeyed, dried grape moments.

The palate is gently sweet with like the nose, opening with the Amontillado character. Full and rounded with a lovely depth of sweet dried fruit and only a mere suggestion of peat, which only becomes apparent in the finish. At first the palate seems quite straightforward but the complexity of slightly salted nuts and dried fruit gently unfolds. Ones only complaint is a slight sulphur blemish hiding amongst the burnt wood notes, but aside from that it is pretty robust and enjoyable.

Quite spirity aromas of rich coffee, sweet treacle, walnuts and decadent Oloroso sherry spices. With time it becomes extremely nutty and ignoring the slight spirity character it’s rather complex. Quite sweet on the palate with an intensity of nutty (almonds and walnuts) Oloroso sherry wood. Full bodied, rich and juicy with a long length and a coffee cream finish.

No. 29 La Bota de Brandy 42%

At least 10 years in American Oak, finished in 3 ex-Fino Butts from Bodegas Rey Fernando de Castilla

Limited release of approximately 800 50cl bottles/ Tasted: June 2011

A very Lowland-esque nose (slightly musky white flowers), heavy on the floral fino aromas. Superb, subtle complexity of brittle honey along with hints of pure orange, white liquorice and some lovely herbal vanillins from the American oak.

The palate is soft, subtle but quite full, opening with some straw like Fino enhanced fruit followed by a gentle salty, dried fruit rancio. The mid palate has a beautiful texture, coating the mouth with juicy raisinated fruit reminiscent of a fine Cognac and underpinned by the unassuming American oak. Superb, lingering finish with a slight perfumed nuance.

Re-Tasted: Nov 2013

An elegant, oxidative rancio of dried apricot, sultana and nuts with hints of herbs, orange, satsuma and honey. Delicate but rich, nutty fino aromas mingle with spicy American oak. With time the aromas darken with some treacle, liquorice and dark spices emerging.

A beautiful, soft, elegant Cognac-esque palate of dried fruit, walnuts, almond and creamy vanilla. There’s a subtle nutty, sherried richness on the middle bringing some juicy spice and light treacle notes. Lovely intensity with the American oak vanillins becoming lightly herbal. Very long with the sun dried raisinated fruit returning and finishing with the herbal oak vanillins.
