Montanya Distillers Platino Rum 40%

Tasted: Oct 2014

Nose: Pungent aromas of white liquorice, dried fruit and vanilla ice cream. Quite earthy with an almost lightly peated note and a touch of smoke. With time it becomes quite perfumed.

Palate: American cream soda! There are hints of dried fruit, white liquorice and vanilla pod, but there’s no escaping the cream soda!

Finish: Long and quite nutty with lingering cream soda notes (surprise!)

Conclusion; Fine if you like sweet American cream soda!

Montanya Distillers Oro Rum 40%

Tasted: Oct 2014

The aromas are quite light, more of a gold than a dark rum. Distinct neutral-ish column still character with a touch of nuts, molasses, toffee, smoke and a light dried fruit note.

Palate: Soft and simple. Relatively sugary with caramel, toffee and a light mint/menthol note.

Finish: Short.

Conclusion: Average

Riverboat Rum 40%

Double distilled from pure cane, dark brown sugar. Briefly aged in ex-Hickory Smoked Whiskey casks

Tasted: June 2013

Quite pungent, oily and slightly Guyana-esque in character. There are hints of toasted caramel and treacle along with some sugar coated dried fruits. Rounded and soft with a light smokiness.

The palate is soft and lightly oiled with hints of dried fruit and smoke. Quite full with a touch of light treacle. Pleasantly intensity if a little simple with the smoke lingering along with a light spirit note.
