Deadhead Tasting Notes

Deadhead 6 year old Rum ‘Arutum Trophy Tsanta’ 40%

Made from sugar cane and molasses in Veracruz (Gulf of Mexico). Double pot still distilled and aged in European oak solera.

Tasted: Feb 2016

Quite a smoky nose with herbal spirit and mentholated agricole notes. Underneath the molasses mingle with hints of dried fruit, wood spice, coconut and grainy oak.

Soft and easy going on the palate, which shows more molasses character, but touch of agricol herbalness comes through. Lightly oaked and a little drying on the finish but pleasantly, softly spiced with lingering vanilla.

 

Cervecera Mexicana Tasting Notes

El Ron Prohibido 40%

Is produced in a 12 year solera system. Its a combination of rums of different ages, blended with raisin wine.

Tasted: Oct 2014

Nose: Hugely toffee’d with a big hit of vanilla ice cream and a touch of burnt caramel. Far too sweet and sickly as well as being over oaked!

Palate: Again very sweet and toffee’d with the burnt caramel obliterating any spirit character.

Finish: Burnt and bitter!

Conclusion: I think a score of 6.0 was being very generous!
