Bache-Gabrielsen 3 Kors Cognac 40%

Tasted: Dec 2014

Nose: Quite herbal and lightly astringent aromas with green apple and edgy pepper notes. Vibrant but very young with some oily spirit notes adding to the youthfulness.

Palate: Like the nose it is quite herbal. Very woody with not quite enough body to balance the biting tannins. Again very youthful, but not lacking in intensity.

Finish: Medium length with a dry spice finish.

Conclusion: Intense and youthful but lacking a bit of body.

Bache-Gabrielsen Hors d’Age Grande Champagne 40%

Tasted: Dec 2014

Nose: Deep aromas of dark prune juice with hints of baked apple. Soft and silky with sweet spice and dusty violet notes.

Palate: Soft and treacly with a lot of oak character. The dried fruit comes through on the middle with a distinct demerara sugar coating.

Finish: Long and succulent. Once the fruit has thrown off the oak shackles it becomes exceedingly juicy. A touch of balancing, edgy spice comes through to give a lightly mouth-watering finish.

Conclusion: A little too sweet for me and it does lose focus a little on the palate but the finish is superb
