A rich and whisky-like nose which displays and almost barley character. The alcohol is fairly intense but well integrated. Hints of wood smoke, herbs, earth and subtle dried fruit notes follow.
The palate displays that barley-like character found on the nose along with hints of dried fruit and herbs. Intensely alcoholic but the molasses, coffee and treacle balance. Lovely tongue tingling spicy finish with some grain whisky-like dried fruit and coconutty oak coming through on the finish.
With water the aromas are softer but still earthy and whisky-like. A touch of burnt coffee grains and burnt wood appears now. The palate is very earthy now with more woody, coffee’d tannins and an almost malty edge. Again it finishes with the grain whisky-like dried fruit. A really unique rum that thinks it’s a malt whisky and finishes like a grain whisky!

Quite whisky-like on the nose with grainy dried fruit and hints of honey, bitter chocolate and citrus peel. There is some lovely, subtle background oak and with time the honey comes to the fore.
The palate is soft but grainy with plenty of dried slightly sour fruit and honey. Intensely alcoholic which masks the finish but there’s a balancing treacle, dark chocolate and coconut note.
The nose is still very grainy when diluted with the emphasis on the bitter chocolate. There’s more toasty oak and some liquor-like orange now. The palate is softer and fuller, now the alcohol has been tamed. Now showing some lovely soft spice, Demerara sugar and honey. Very long and juicy with a light herbal note emerging and a touch of drying, chocolaty tannins.

Deep, woody and grain whisky-like aromas. There’s plenty of nippy column still character and hints of dark spice, coffee, liquorice and treacle. A touch of luscious orange, oxidised fruit and sweet marzipan appears. I have to say it has a lovely aged rancio.
Soft and smooth in the mouth, opening with treacle and lightly nippy column still notes. The treacle builds along with some wood spice, raisinated fruit and coffee. The alcohol is very well contained and the finish is long and coffee’d with lingering mocha, treacle and column still spice.
Water lightens and freshens the nose. It brings out notes of charred oak, and wood smoke. The palate is a little oiler with a touch of granulated sugar. Simpler, maybe, but still very deep and showing a lovely, juicy character. The finish is the same as it is neat.
