Lombard Jewels of Scotland Glenury Royal 1973 (40 year old) 40%

Bourbon Hogshead 6867/ Dist: Jun 1973 Btl: Jun 2014/ Tasted: Apr 2016

The nose is exuberantly and stunningly tropical – pineapple, melon, apricot, mango and gorgeous, dusty, mature, American oak. Oozing class with hints of white chocolate, barley, lime, pear, malt and a salty minerality.

The palate is more minerally with acacia honey, crunchy honeycomb, barley and a profusion of tropical fruit. The citrus and alcohol keeps the sweetness in check but the gorgeous, creamy and dusty oak powers through along with hints of praline and spice. Long and crisp with lingering honey coated Alsace-like white fruits, oak, praline and drying spice. In conclusion: I don’t have enough space to describe the brilliance of this whisky!

Blackadder Raw Cask Glenury Royal 1973 (30 year old) 50.7%

Refill Sherry Cask 6861/ Dist: June 1973 Btl: Nov 2003/ Tasted: Oct 2005

The nose is aromatic with a plenty of sherry and some peat smoke. On the palate it has less sweetness than the nose suggest. Dry, rich and complex, with mature malt, spice and floral notes. The finish is remarkably long.
