Borders Distillery New Make Spirit 63.5%

Tasted: Jan 2019

A pungent and raw cerealy nose, but it’s quite smooth and lightly creamy/ oily. There’s a background of perfumed barley, white fruit and a subtle smoked meat note.

The palate is quite soft with oily, raw cereal and a touch of perfumed barley. Delicate and light with an oily, malty core. Good length with smoked meat, malt and dark grainy notes in the finish.

Water makes the nose a little soapy with more mash tum cereal character. The barley is also more obvious and quite rounded in character. The palate mirrors the nose with less of the meatiness and more of the sweet barley.
