Scotts Selection Aberlour Tasting Notes

Posted: August 23, 2011 in Aberlour, Scotch Whisky A-G

Scotts Selection Aberlour 1990 (16 year old) 52.5%

Bourbon/ Dist: 1990 Btl: 2006/ Tasted: Sept 2007

Very floral aromas – Acacia and mingled white flowers. It has a very fresh edge to it with the alcohol very noticeable. Underneath there is a nice depth of citrus fruit and soft, creamy oak. A drop of water brings out a sappy, botanical and herbaceous note.

The palate is juicy and fruity. Loads of layered citrus fruit and a lot of Bourbon oak. Water makes it a bit straightforward emphasising the soft spices. Short. The alcohol dominates and there’s a citrus/ gin like botanical after taste. Water lengthens it and like on the palate brings out the spiciness. It’s ok. Seems younger than 16 years old.
