Carn Mor Strictly Limited Knockdhu 2009 (6 year old) 46%

Bourbon/ Dist: 2009 Btl: 2016/ Tasted: May 2016

A lovely, young, vibrant and gristy nose with tart gooseberry and lime, liberally sprinkled with granulated sugar and hints of barley, apricot and vanilla.

The palate is young and barley’d with a touch of apricot, melon and white fruit. Lightly honeyed, tropical and subtly spiced with a very mineral/ citric middle. Long and remaining citric, barley’d and minerally. Yes, it’s young but it has a pleasant intensity.

Bourbon Hogsheads/ Dist: 2009 Btl: 2017/ Tasted: Oct 2017

Heavy, oily and slightly feinty on the nose with raw cereal, honey and porridge oats. With time hints of almost mentholated herbs and lime.

The palate displays sweet barley, honey, malt and porridge oats. I’d imagine these were fairly well used casks as there isn’t much oak character on show. Medium length with again a very slight feintiness. In fairness it’s not bad spirit, but it’s just been bottled too soon.
