Lady of the Glen Caperdonich Tasting Notes

Lady of the Glen Caperdonich 1997 (22 year old) 60.5%

Bourbon Cask 19130/ Dist: Aug 1997 Btl: Jul 2020/ Tasted: Jul 2020

This cask must have lain in a pretty warm warehouse in order to retain that level of alcohol after all these years! A mature and slightly woody nose with coffee and nose tingling, alcohol enhanced spice. Hints of clean, old rose petal, seeped apricot, white fruit and a good dollop of creamy oak (1st fill Bourbon?). With time it shows mature stone fruit and straw.

The palate opens with the wood spices and coffee, followed by old honey, apricot and hints of straw. Overall it has a good balance and the oak is well behaved. Mind, you have to love those buzzy alcohol enhanced spices. Long and continuing spicy with hints of tannin and old rose petal. It’s certainly not the worst old caper I’ve come across but £400????
