Dewar Rattray ‘Cask Collection’ Knockdhu 2009 (10 year old) 52.7%

Bourbon Hogshead No2/ Dist: Apr 2009 Btl: Sept 2019/ Tasted: Feb 2020

The nose is very herbal and barley’d with castor sugar coated pear and white peach. Hints of juniper, hyacinth and subtle tropical fruit follow. With time a little edgy spirit note appears along with white liquorice and vanilla.

The palate is lightly oiled and barley’d with apricot, pear and white peach. Fuller than the nose would lead you to believe and less herbal but there’s still a slight edgy spirit note. Hints of burnt toffee on the middle along with a touch of waxy fruit. Medium length with a slightly soapy and perfumed finish. White liquorie and lime after-taste.

Diluted the nose becomes a little neutral and soapy. The palate is again somewhat neutral with less fruit and more herbal spirit. The fruit does eventually emerge, and the finish s pleasantly spiced with a late green banana skin and liquorice notes.
