Bourbon Cask 172/ Dist: Apr 1993 Btl: Oct 2006/ Tasted: Jan 2007

Deep, rich aromas of apricot and tangerine fruit rise from the glass. This is lovely, bursting with fruit, with hints of earth and powdered spice. In the mouth it is soft and extremely fruity with apricot, sweet toffee, raisins and a late powdered spice note.

Yum, it has a glorious mouth feel all cinnamon coated honey malt and the spices are well just ever where! A drop of water mellow and brings it all together nicely bringing out a touch of vanilla oak and not dulling the spiciness. Personally I would drink it neat in order to experience the full force of its personality.

Bourbon Cask 342/ Dist: Dec 1986 Btl: Mar 2015/ Tasted: Sept 2015

Dense aromas of coffee’d malt, chocolate and barley, shot through with some delightfully crisp and exuberant citrus. Hints of flowers, sweetened gooseberry, lime and dusty oak appear with time.

The palate pretty much mirrors the nose with subtle honey, malt, coffee and barley along with some crisp, citrus notes. Beautifully honeyed with some dusty oak notes developing and the barley taking on a lovely sugar kissed character.  Hints of minerals and a light popcorn note comes through. Long, lightly spiced and very citric finish with the barley and honey forming a bedrock.

Dewar Rattray ‘Individual Cask Bottling’ Glenturret 1988 (25 year old) 45.3%

Bourbon Hogshead 891/ Dist: Dec 1988 Btl: Jan 2014/ Tasted: Feb 2014

The nose is very manurey and straw-like with some luscious honey and creamy barley, but my god, it reeks of manure! In amongst all that manure lurks some damp cardboard and sub industrial coffee notes. Lightly herbal with some lovely sawdusty oak which tries to lift it out of the oppressive manuriness.

The palate opens with some light citrus, liberally coated with granulated sugar and honey. Thankfully a lot less manurey than the nose would lead you to believe and once the sawdusty oak arrives it becomes wonderfully full. The finish is a bit on the short side however and the oak really bitters the finish – A lot.
